Sara Ramirez

Sara Ramirez has been a Mexican American actor, performer and songwriter for several years. As a child Sara was targeted for racial discrimination by many people in America. In the 9th grade, she began to feel more comfortable after she was acknowledged by her teachers as a success for singing at a school's audition. She not only gained confidence because of the experience, but she also changed career goals. She graduated from the New York's Julliard School at the age of 22. In 1993 she had her Broadway debut with Paul Simon's The Capeman. Her first film was called You've Got Mail. However her greatest breakthrough came when she appeared in the character of The Lady of The Lake in the very first Broadway show Spamalot winning not just her the Tony Award for her performance but also great critical acclaim. The following year, she joined the ABC show Grey's Anatomy as Dr. Callie Torres and gained wider recognition for it. In addition to having a cult following as a singer, she released a solo and a longer piece. In addition, she is an LGBT activist.
