Perry is Perry is a Chicago native, she was born into Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. In the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as shown in flashback) her mother portrayed Jackie Harris in two of Perry's first TV roles. However, her parents did not allow her to act until she was an adult due to the impact stress might be able to have on their daughter. Perry was shy during high school and did not act. The actress began her acting career in the year 2000 at Northwestern University to gain friends when she transferred from Boston University. Perry had the opportunity to secure minor TV roles in Law & Order: Criminal Intent when she finished her degree. The feeling of homelessness, however, brought her back to California again where she began working in the stage. Her mother and she appeared on Broadway with her for the play The Other Place, in 2013. The show was directed by Eugene O'Neill. Pulitzer Prize winner Anna Christie and Kevin McKidd. This was staged in the West Los Angeles' Odyssey Theatre Ensemble. Perry played a part in nine episodes of ABC's thriller The Family during 2016. In 2017, Perry had an appearance on ABC's political thriller Scandal alongside her father. The same year, she portrayed a child model of Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory), portraying her mother in a younger version. Despite having a family connection to the character she received the part through an audition.
